And I would have used "Atheists" rather than "Unbelievers."

Obama's mother was raised by non-practicing Christians; his father was raised a Muslim but was an atheist by the time he had married Obama's mother. Hence his practice of including the non-deluded among "Americans".Tallulah Moreheadhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07416330735326405496noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2504494626360061155.post-56786389980843231652009-01-21T15:47:00.000-08:002009-01-21T15:47:00.000-08:00My GAWD! I was wondering who wrote that speech. ...My GAWD! I was wondering who wrote that speech. Thanks for coming forward, and congratulations!! Two observations, for whatever they might be worth. Our daughter pointed out to us how frequently Obama makes certain to include “unbelievers” when he mentions Christians, Jews, Muslims, Hindus, etc. in a speech. Don’t recall that ever being done before with any frequency. (Although I think the Buddists seem to frequently get overlooked – but of everyone, they’re probably most likely to feel it doesn’t matter.) Also, I’m seriously guessing the Aretha chapeau may have been a westernized nod/homage to those traditional African wraparound headthings. Just less recognizable due to the muted colors. The one thing I’ve noticed in documentaries and National Geographic, you can say what you want about those Ashantis and Maassai, but they’ve never been known to skimp on fabric. And, as you know, those turbanic accessories can be quite fetching.

Cheers back at ya.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2504494626360061155.post-40933139525846847192009-01-21T14:07:00.000-08:002009-01-21T14:07:00.000-08:00Darling,I heard Rev. Warren's creepy, jazz-hands reading of the First Kid's names later, on THE DAILY SHOW, and Jon Stewart's reaction was pretty much the same as yours.

I loved Stewart's description of Warren as "the pastor of the not-at-all-gay-sounding Saddleback Church" which made me smile.

Cheers.

WV: shewor. How John Ford abbreviated his movie SHE WORE A YELLOW RIBBON. Appropriate, since Michelle Obama did, in fact, wear a yellow ribbon tied in a tasteful bow, as oppossed to Aretha's humongous, Godzillian gray hat bow. I suppose, given Mrs. Obama's work with military families, that she has to have the yellow ribbions handy for families to tie around old oak trees, if her husband manages to bring the troops home.Tallulah Moreheadhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07416330735326405496noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2504494626360061155.post-21470365336252233362009-01-21T06:07:00.000-08:002009-01-21T06:07:00.000-08:00Tallulah, would you be a dear and pass this messag...Tallulah, would you be a dear and pass this message on to little Dougie? I DID hear the Warren...whatever that was supposed to be...yesterday and I must tell you, it was spooky, and not in a good way.

And at the end he asked for a blessing on the First Family and when he said the little girls' names, that was downright creepy. I was thinking, "Someone should call the pedophile police." Today I've seen other people post that same sentiment.

Later on though, during the festivities, while I am not one inclined to pray, I did indeed shout out, Amen! Twice. It was a good day.

Now, if we could only get the criminals off to the Hague. In hope.

Thanks and cheers, darling.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
